Click below to view the video of the February 27, 2019 Board of Directors Candidates Forum held in the Leilani Community Association Pavilion. The forum was organized by (alphabetically) Andy Andrews, Alice Lindahl, Sonya Reuter, Matt Rippa, and Sara Wagner.
The candidates for the Leilani Board of Directors will meet with Leilani II residents on Wednesday February 27th in the LCA Community Center Pavilion from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm.
The event will be moderated. Following two questions from the moderator, the audience will have the opportunity to submit questions written on cards by Leilani II property owners. The questions will be read by the moderator using a public address system so all can hear. In order to provide as much time for all questions, there will not be a debate or responses to answers from the audience.
Time will be allotted at the end of the session for residents to speak one to one with any of the candidates they wish.
In addition, prior to the forum, each candidate will be asked to offer his or her answers to two general questions in writing which will be posted on the LCA website on February 19th. https://leilaniestates.org
REMINDER: Leilani II residents in good standing must submit their votes to the LCA office by March 16th. The ballot will be in the yearly mailing of the newsletter and dues statement. These notices and the ballots were mailed on February 14.
1.) The volcanic eruption inside our subdivision and the aftermath of its devastation has created many challenges for our community. Physical damage, social displacements, and residents’ personal losses have complicated many issues that now need to be addressed by our leaders. We all agree that Leilani needs to maintain its roads, roadsides and the community center. We are struggling with the new issues that are before us.
The issues below have been compiled by speaking with Leilani residents about their hopes for productive changes in the near future. How would you rank the importance of each issue as a member of the upcoming 2019 Board of Directors?
A. Providing access for tourists inside Leilani or excluding tourists from LE
B. Establishing gated access as approved by vote of property owners
C. Ridding Leilani of drug houses, drug dealers, criminals and looters
D. Re-establishing roads providing the owners access to their isolated homes
E. Improving relations with the Leilani I community
F. Safeguarding empty homes
G. Enforcing existing covenants (CC&Rs) to discourage neglect of properties and the resulting blight of neighborhoods.
H. Collecting delinquent yearly assessment dues and fees
I. Retaining a lawyer to handle legal concerns in all of the above challenges.
In the space on the left side of the page, please rank these items by your priorities. Indicate #1 as the highest importance through #9 your least important priority on the list. If you have additional priorities that you think are important for Leilani, please list them below.
2.) Choose the TWO top ranking of your issues and describe how you would tackle the problem, with the assistance of other board members, by creating a committee with volunteer resident help or by yourself.
